Bohemia Sekt Karel IV: A Tribute to Royalty

Fiala & Sebek Visual Communications a.s. Crafts an Exclusive Limited Edition Champagne Packaging

The packaging design is a tribute to Charles IV, the most significant Bohemian ruler who contributed to the development of the Bohemian lands and founded many new vineyards. The design features a dramatic contrast of technology enhancement between the bottle labelling and gift box, playing with royal attributes and evoking a medieval style.

Only 700 bottles were produced, each hand-labeled, numbered, adjusted, and packed. The hand-made paper label is decorated with a combination of printing, gold hot stamping, and 3D relief varnish. The bottle neck is crowned by a leather ribbon sealed with real sealing wax, and the wooden gift pack is decorated by silk-screen printing.

The design team, led by Creative Director Jiri Fiala, faced the challenge of creating a unique, exceptional design solution that stood out from the mainstream communication crowd. The packaging design had to respect the mandatories of a royal tribute and link the medieval era of Charles IV with the contemporary premium brand of Bohemia Sekt.

The packaging design project was realized in Prague, starting in November 2015 and finishing in April 2016. The packaging was produced in the Czech Republic and Austria and packed in Stary Plzenec in spring 2016. The limited edition was sold in 2016 - 2017.

This design was awarded Silver in A' Packaging Design Award in 2019. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
